Maryann McCary, Music Director

Originally from the New London/Waterford area, I’m a Connecticut native.  Growing up, I took piano lessons and sang in school choruses and church choirs at every opportunity. I began playing the organ at age 15 when a local church, needing an organist, paid for organ lessons.

I graduated from Connecticut College, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in music and a concentration in organ performance. Studies included voice, music theory and history, and choral conducting. Additional music studies included courses at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and in Germany.

A member of the American Guild of Organists since 1980, she has been a board member and Dean, organizing programs and conventions, and has both lead and attended various workshops.

While working full time in the business world, I held part-time organist/choir director positions in area Episcopal and Congregational churches.  Now “retired”, Maryann lives in Moodus with husband Thom Hagerth.  Their blended family includes four children and two grandchildren.
